Description

A very rounded shaped, deep rich red flower, 10-12cm across, with contrasting yellow anthers. Flowers freely from May through to July, with reliable repeat flowering into September. The blooms also hold the colour very well with little or no fading. With its compact habit and height of 90-120cm, Elpis would make a wonderful addition to a patio, in a container, or in the mid to front of a flower border, where it’s longevity of successive flowers can be fully appreciated.

The modern clematis in the Raymond Evison range flower readily and will yield good results using relatively simple pruning techniques. In late winter/early Spring simply   reduce all stems down to 6" (15cm) of soil level.

The breakthrough with Clematis Elpis EviGsy154(PBR), is not just the plentiful wonderful blooms but the outstanding foliage, which is vibrant and strong, which is the perfect backdrop for the rich red blooms.

Why Elpis?

We have named this clematis in association with two amazing charities, MUG (Male Uprising Guernsey), whose aim is to increase awareness of male cancers and to help those who are affected by prostate, bowel and testicular cancer on the island of Guernsey, and The Prostate Cancer Research charity, to help raise awareness of the diseases and the importance of this research to deliver breakthrough medicines and treatments to achieve a world where people are free from the impact of prostate cancer. Working with MUG and PCR we will release Clematis Elpis EviGsy154(PBR) at the 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, alongside Clematis Bridgewater EviGsy155(PBR) and Clematis Baroness Fookes EviGsy156(PBR),

‘Elpis’ is the Greek Goddess or spirit of hope and was depicted as a young woman, carrying flowers.
